In the 1980s almost every British high street had a Woolworths, or 'Woolies' as everyone called it, a sprawling variety store where you could buy records, toys, garden plants and sweets all under one roof. This branch in Camberwell, south London, was typical of the hundreds that anchored town centres up and down the country before the whole chain closed its doors for good in 2009.
