Spirograph was the geometric drawing toy that turned any child into a mathematical artist, using interlocking plastic cogs and wheels pinned to paper so a pen could trace hypnotic looping patterns. Invented by British engineer Denys Fisher and launched by his Leeds firm in 1965, it became a huge seller worldwide before the rights passed through several owners over the decades.
