The story

Spangles were square boiled sweets with a dimple, made by Mars from 1950 and sold in a paper tube for pennies. They vanished from shelves in 1984 as tastes moved on. They no longer exist — but they refused to stay dead: fan demand was strong enough that Mars brought them back in 1995, and they lasted barely a year the second time round. Ask anyone who grew up in the 1970s and they'll name their favourite flavour instantly.
