The story
Corgi Toys were the die-cast metal model cars that battled arch-rival Dinky for pocket-money supremacy, winning fans with opening doors and bonnets that Dinky's models lacked. Their biggest triumph was the Aston Martin DB5 tied to the James Bond film Goldfinger, first sold in gold with a working ejector seat, then reissued in silver with revolving number plates and tyre slashers. Corgi itself folded in 1983 when its parent company Mettoy collapsed, though the name lives on today as a collectors' diecast brand.
